Hawaii proposes disabling devices for repeat DUI offenders

January 13th, 2008 · No Comments

Hawaii legislators have proposed a bill that would require repeat DUI offenders to have alcohol ignition interlock system installed in their vehicles. This system is a breath test device that does not allow a drunk individual to start the engine of the car while intoxicated.

Hawaii is one of five states that still does not require repeat offenders to install the system. Missouri Govenor Matt Blunt has also asked that Missouri Judges rule that repeat DUI offenders have the systems installed in their vehicles. As of 2005, only 19% of Missouri’s repeat DUI offenders were required to install the system.

Repeat DUI offenders have legal rights just like any other citizen. If you have been charged with a DUI offense and would like to try to lessen the charges or if you believe that you were falsely accused of driving under the influence, contact the DUI defense lawyer James Powderly today to discover all of your legal options.
